British artist Curtis Holder receives St Cuthberts Mill Award at the Wells Art Contemporary exhibition

I am honoured that my large multilayered drawing ‘Portrait of Peter Innocent I’ received the St Cuthberts Mill Award for an artist working on paper at the Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) 2022 exhibition.

The private view was my first visit to the exhibition and it is truly unique, with contemporary artworks filling the cloisters and adorning the architecture of Wells Cathedral.

From thousands of international submissions, this year’s judging panel selected a shortlist of 120 artworks by 111 artists. Alongside the gallery works, 29 site-specific installations stand as interventional responses to the architectural, spatial and spiritual aspects of the cathedral.

The WAC competition and exhibition is open to artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, installation or video. It aims to stimulate debate, challenge and provoke, pushing the boundaries of the visual arts scene both nationally and internationally.

See the show at Wells Cathedral, Somerset until 30 August 2022.
